In April, IATP centers throughout Ukraine hosted a series of events dedicated to the defense of human rights. The IATP network hosted seminars to explain to local residents their rights and ways they can defend them and presentations on online resources dedicated to human rights for local youth, NGO activists, and media representatives. IATP has been helping such groups and individuals promote human rights in the region for years, by providing a consistently permissive and free forum for the exchange of information, ideas, and opinions. With its local, grassroots approach, the program reaches audiences that are often untouched by the quickly evolving political situation in Kiev, allowing citizens to keep in touch with national developments in human rights, while integrating their local and regional objectives.

Over the past year, hundreds of citizens of the former Soviet Union were empowered to defend their rights, increase awareness among their peers and catalyze positive changes in their countries through activities facilitated by IATP that focused on human rights. IATP also provided citizens with the training and access they needed to collaborate with colleagues, coordinate efforts, and expand their ability to educate the public and raise standards throughout the region.
