Trainees discuss their advocacy campaign
strategies in Severodonetsk, Ukraine
As the countries of the Former Soviet Union still face considerable problems in building civil society, the network of IATP centers throughout Eurasia supported the efforts of local NGOs and community activists to mobilize in pursuit of local priorities, and facilitated cooperation between state officials and citizens. The IATP network sponsored computer and Internet trainings to empower marginalized populations to protect their rights, assisted local NGOs and community activists to find information on best practices, initiated online discussions involving state officials and local residents to facilitate their cooperation in addressing the most urgent problems of the local communities, and provided free Web hosting for online resources dedicated to advocacy campaigns to spread information to a wider Internet audience.
