IATP Reaches out to Eurasian Women, Helping them Succeed in Non-Traditional Roles
February 28, 2007

Women across Eurasia have relied on IATP for access to resources that, for cultural, economic, or geographic reasons, are largely unavailable to them. With training in computer skills, an online forum to exchange their views, web hosting to publicize their ideas, and a safe place to meet and plan joint action, IATP empowers women with tools that strengthen their efforts to achieve gender equality in their societies.

More than 20 teenage journalists organized two awareness and reporting campaigns entitled “Corruption - NO” in Osh and Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan this fall, using the hard-hitting journalism skills they acquired from training in the summer and fall as part of a joint OSCE-IATP project. The group published three articles, prepared a radio spot, and gave a press conference at Akipress in Bishkek (www.akipress.kg), Kyrgyzstan’s leading online news agency, reporting the campaigns’ outcomes. Meanwhile, they continued to update the Nasha Versia online journal (www.nashaversia.net) with articles on critical social themes.
